Riparbella
Riparbella is a municipality of the Cecina Valley that lies on the southern edge of the Pisan Hills. In contrast to its neighbouring towns, with their circular shaped urban layout, Riparbella was developed lengthwise along the main street.
The Church of San Giovanni remains as proof of the town's medieval origin and each year from Christmas to February the mechanised nativity scene is set up here. Artefacts from an Etruscan necropolis have been unearthed in the nearby locality of Belora, some of which are on display at the Guarnacci Museum at Volterra and the Hermitage in Moscow. The area is part of the Giardino-Belora-Fiume Cecina Natural Reserve providing an ideal habitat for the species living in the wetlands. The Environmental Education Centre organises instructional activities and guided outings for animal and bird spotting.
Some interesting events are the traditional wild boar festival, Sagra del cinghiale, (third Sunday in November), with dishes based on the catch, and the Agrifiera (first Sunday and Monday in august), a former livestock fair that today has evolved into a horse fair with equestrian shows and demonstrations.
